About the Instructors
Heidi Szugye, DO, IBCLC, FAAP
Dr. Heidi Szugye is a board-certified pediatrician, board-certified pediatric hospitalist, and international board-certified lactation consultant. She obtained her undergraduate degree at Case Western Reserve University and her medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency training at Cleveland Clinic Children's. After her chief residency year, she worked at Cleveland Clinic Children's for 8 years as a pediatric hospitalist in various settings, including the main campus, Children's Rehab Hospital, Hillcrest, and Fairview, where she took care of patients admitted to general pediatric floors and newborn nurseries. In the spring of 2022, she founded and became the Medical Director for Cleveland Clinic Children's Breastfeeding Medicine Clinic, which has served over 1,000 patients to date. She has participated in a number of research and quality improvement initiatives surrounding breastfeeding, been featured in several media and news features discussing breastfeeding, and presented locally and regionally on the topic. She is passionate about trainee and patient education, teaches PBL, and is a physician advisor at Cleveland Clinic's Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. In her free time, she enjoys reading, running, and going on bike rides or walks with her husband, twin 8-year-old daughters, and 3-year-old son.Kam Lam MD, IBCLC, MPH, MS, FAAP
Dr. Kam Lam is the Assistant Medical Director of the Breastfeeding Medicine Clinic at Cleveland Clinic Children’s. She is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She completed her pediatric and chief residencies at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. She worked as a pediatric hospitalist at Cleveland Clinic Children’s attending deliveries and seeing newborn dyads before transitioning to her current role. In her teaching roles, she created the virtual breastfeeding elective for medical students and is the founding faculty co-lead of the World Medicine Pathway at the medical school. She is passionate in the areas of medical education, global health education, and decreasing health disparities in our community. She’s received grant funding and support for breastfeeding research, including train-the-trainer breastfeeding workshops for Black doulas and cost analyses of mastitis care.Registration
